A meeting in Mumbai, and my family also insisted for coming along. My daughter suggested "Safari mein Chale". Descision was spontaneous, "Chalo". I had the meeting on Friday 19th morning,hence we planned to start on 17th morning, stop at Udaipur, Next day to Mumbai.
Preplan
Some quick search, planned route Delhi - Jaipur - Bhilwara (NH76)- Udaipur - Ahmedabad - Vadodara - Surat - Mumbai.
Day 1
Started early morning at 5 am.
Reached Vadodara by 7 pm.
Total time taken 14rs
Total distance 1040 Kms
Break of 1.5 hrs.
Day 2
Started at 6 am and reached Mumbai at 1.30 pm
Day 3
Attended the meetings.
Day 4
Route taken :
Mumbai - Vapi - Surat - Vadodara - Ahmedabad - Himmatnagar - Idar - Khedbhrama - Ambaji - Abu Road - Taleti - Mount Abu
Started early morning 5 am from Mumbai. Even at 5 am , the Western Express highway had good traffic. Faced a mini jam at Dahisar. Mumbai - Surat has a very high density of trucks, cruising was very difficult. It took good 6 hrs to cross the Narmada river near Baruch which we crossed at 11 am.
There is a drive-in McDonalds after Vapi, it OPENS ONLY AFTER 9 AM.
We had our breakfast break at Vimano restaurant ater Bhawada Toll.
After Baruch the traffic eased up and again we were able to cruise at 100+ kmph.
Lunch break just before Himmat Nagar, then took the Ambaji road for Mount Abu. Its around 180 kms from Himmatnagar. Roads are 2 lane with decent traffic.
Reached Ambaji by 5 pm (12 hrs drive with 2 breaks of 30 mins each). Now headed to Abu road which is 27 kms from Ambaji, this road meets NH-14. Took a shortcut throught Taleti Village and reached Mount Abu by 6.30 pm.

14. Rabit Farm - near oriya village - Buy wool shawls, stoles etc.
We did Dilwara, Nakki, Guru Shikhar, Sunset Point, Trevor's Tank and Rabit Farm. Lots of good hotels around, I stayed at Hotel Vinayak, just at the entry near Toppers Circle. Few other good hotels I remember is Hotel Hillock, Chacha Inn, Hilltone towards Nakki lake road. A vacation of 4 or 5 days is enough to cover Mount Abu.
Day 6
The last day of our trip. Started our return journey at 8.30 am. Our route was planned not to take traditional Udaipur route, insterd we planned NH14 till Beawar, then took the bypass to Nasirabad, then the usual route. NH14 too has decent truck traffic and is 2 laned. Major towns were Pidwara, Sirohi, Sumerpur, Pali and Beawar.
Crossed Jaipur by 5 pm. As usual high truck traffic jam at Shahpura, Bhiwadi-Manesar. Reached home by 10.30 pm
